Grams to cups FAQ

Can you convert grams to cups?

Yes, but only for a specific ingredient. Grams measure weight and cups measure volume, so the answer depends on how much one cup of that ingredient weighs. This converter uses a published weight for each ingredient.

How many grams are in a cup of flour?

King Arthur Baking lists 120 g per cup of all-purpose flour. Some other charts use about 125 g, and a scooped cup can weigh noticeably more than a spooned and leveled one.

Why do conversion charts disagree?

Ingredients pack differently by brand, humidity and how the cup is filled, and each chart uses its own measuring method. Pick one trusted source and stay with it, or weigh the ingredient.

Is a cup the same everywhere?

No. A US customary cup is 236.588 ml, while a metric cup used in Australia, New Zealand and some other countries is 250 ml. Check which cup your recipe was written for.

Is weighing more accurate than using cups?

Yes. A scale gives the same amount every time, while a cup of the same ingredient changes with how it is packed. For baking, weigh your ingredients when you can.
